Patient and Carer Research Review Panel
20 July 2011

Marsden - life demands excellence

As part of our ongoing commitment to involve patients and carers in everything that we do, we are running a 12-month pilot of a patient and carer research review panel. We would like the public to be involved as well.

Each month, via email or post, the panel will review a range of research documents, including protocols, proposals and patient information. Any suggestions about improving the way we do things will be passed to the researchers who will then feed back about how they intend to incorporate these suggestions into our daily routine.

We are currently looking for people to join the panel. Apply now at this link: http://www.royalmarsden.nhs.uk/research/patients/research-review-panel

What the panel will do

During the pilot stage, patients and carers on the panel will be involved in helping to review research protocols and study procedures, and collaborating on patient information sheets. Over time, this level of involvement may extend to managing, undertaking and disseminating research, and even helping the hospital plan, design and commission research.

This is very exciting prospect for The Royal Marsden as it means that we will be working more closely with those affected by cancer and, in doing so, gaining insights that will allow our research to be more inclusive and considerate of patients', carers' and the public's perspectives.

Our next meeting is at the Royal Marsden Hospital (in the Institute of Cancer Research building) in Sutton on August 16th 2011 from 10-3pm.

Please let us know if you'd like to attend via the link: http://www.royalmarsden.nhs.uk/research/patients/research-review-panel
